I have a Sahara with a stock radio. I tried playing an MP3 disk this morning and the player had problems playing a lot of the tracks. It would just try to read them for a few seconds and then go to the next. Also, it takes a lot of time to start playing. On a side note, I burnt the disc on my computer last night...:-)

You can try a couple of things:

1) burn your discs at a slower speed (8x instead of 48x)
2) try a different brand of cd-r

I'll bet that one of these will fix it.

Look in your manual. There are certain ways you need to burn your disc and rip your Mp3's (or WMA's). Everything is spelled out pretty clearly in the manual. (for a change)

This is almost always going to be brand of disc or user error in burning. PM me and I'd be glad to help you get it sorted out if you can't get it working.

Some drives don't like media that's been burned at a faster rate (don't ask me why). It's probably the brand of CDR, but burning it slower may also help...

Good luck.

Would that affect some files and not others?

It sounds more like some of the files are an incompatible file type or bit rate. Could also be that the file names are too long. I'm no expert, though - just thinkin' out loud.

I don't have my stock unit installed anymore. Maybe it doesn't like VBR mp3s as opposed to CBR. I dunno.

I've heard people mention in other threads that the player doesn't like WMA's with DRM either. I think it can be turned off when ripping CD's using Windows Media Player.

this thread may help:

It is about burning DVD's but the same info will apply to CD's.

I would not be surprised if the VBR does cause issues. My older MP3 players choke on VBR.

Varible Bit Rate - Meaning the encoded bit rate can be different in the same file.

Can confuse some software.

Nope..no problems. All my mp3s (~7500) are V0/APX vbr...work like a champ. Only problem I've run into is some of my tags are a bad version..and the player won't show the song name. I burn at full speed 52x...verbatim media.

using itunes hilight all your mp3's and under advanced go to convert ID3 tag and convert to V 1.0 on all your MP3's and then your factory radio in your jeep will play any of the song's in itunes you burn

I prefer mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/) myself. But itunes works too.
