I'm really not familiar with dvd system. Do someone know if there's a tv out that I can put on back seat (no option on the list) or the dvd is just fo playing mp3? We are very short of info here in Quebec

Honestly, I don't know if you can watch a movie on it or not but it does have a big enough screen to do so. But, I'm pretty sure that the unit is just designed to read DVD's for their geographic software and/or music.

Anybody else know about this system? Is it like what the Grands and the Commanders have now?

I recall reading somewhere you can watch dvd's but only in park. or neutral with the e-brake.

I read a thread where someone put a movie dvd in and could get all the sound. I bet there is a way to connect a monitor. Probably have to wait until someone pulls theirs apart to see if there are any extra plugs in the back

Very good. I was planning on buying a IPod so the kids can watch a movie while moving (have to see if it work) but if we can figure out how to plug a monitor out of it, it will be great.

I elected to order mine WITHOUT the MyGig system - first, I don't want to wait; second, if you buy it aftermarket, it won't have the lockout where you can't navigate or view a movie while the vehicle's moving, and also I plan to attach headset monitors to it also, so that means I'll need a custom install regardless.

Check out the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 at this web site: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/division/demo/0,,2076_310069681,00.html#unit=AVIC%20Z1

It has XM, OR Sirius, NAV, DVD MOVIE /music capability, CD, FM/AM, and other cool stuff. Mine's going to get one as soon as it arrives, I can post a ton of pics once I get started, though I bet it'll be a chore to wire in. You can find them for about $1500 which is comparable to the DC Nav system currently available. I chose it because I'm a diehard XMer, NOT Sirius. Plus, with the screen in the middle, I can put the kid's seat in the middle of the back seat and she'll have a birds eye view of any movie I play for her on road trips.

YOWZA! That thing is NICE. Backup camera, Bluetooth, & iPod controls are all things I want, that the MyGig doesn't offer. (If you tow a lot, you quickly appreciate a backup camera for getting hitched.)

That's the ticket Laddie...

Voice activated, watch DVD movies, electronic compass, voltmeter, even a slope angle meter, what's not to like?! Oh yea, it also has a useless G-meter, not that the current JK will have much use for that unless one boosts the engine.

Another option to consider is a full-blown PC for your car.

I'm leaning this way because of the special off-road nav software I want to use in Mexico.

There are even turnkey systems to use if you don't mind the expense.

Not for the faint-of-heart, but the possibilities are endless.

Here's a good place to learn more: http://www.mp3car.com

Here's a link to an article written by a guy who built a very cool computer for his TJ, I got lots of ideas from it: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=80695

Now THAT is what I call high-tech!!

I chucked when I read how the GPS can "see" the satellites through the soft top. Soft Top?? Meaning all this computer stuff is easily accesible via anyone with a pocket knife?

At least he has a garage-door opener which means it is stored when not out and about, or at the mall.

Allrighty, I caught the mall cruiser undertones here. I believe he talks about how dirty it gets when trail riding. That was why he chose the sealed computer. I'm not defending that level of gadgetry in ANY vehicle. I had my cherokee broken into twice. On the other hand is sure is an impressive assortment of gadgets.

Sorry, I was suffering from a mild case of electron-envy. I admire almost anyone who invests that amount of energy to improve or modify a vehicle like that. I'm sure he takes it off-road. It would almost seem a waste NOT to!

Moreover: If you do connect headrest monitors, will you be able to have the kids listen to a DVD with headphones, and have mom & dad listen to ripped MP3's or something else up front? EZ if they are separate systems, but is it possible with a single integrated system?

there is no video out on the rear, it is on one of these sights, listed as getting to the radio. Im sure there is a harness that will eventually come out that will have one, they wouldnt have gone through the trouble of putting that menu option in there with the dvd, i was so excited when i saw that it had the "dvd video" stamp. Unless you are good enough to find the pins that give the video, either way, i cant wait for this thing to get hacked.

Sorry don't know of the Other Forum yet.. This is the only I could find.. And it's awesome..

This is great forum to find the Jeep info you want. Eddie does a great job of keeping us all informed of all the latest news. He is a long time Jeeper and is very knowledgable about Jeep related items. If he doesn't know it, he'll find it out. He keeps in contact with all the aftermarket suppliers and always has the most current info on what is coming out, and when. You might say for him that this whole Jeep thing is a "way of life":rotflmao1: It is nice to peruse the other sites to get a broader range of opinions, and most of the information you find gets dragged back and forth anyway. But for a nice friendly/helpful bunch of guys this is a great place.

(How did I do Eddie?:ahhhhh: )
