I looked at all the pics with as much anticipation as if they were my own!
1) How do you know what the limitations of your vehicle are? Are you generally cautious or do you push the limits? Are you willing to push harder if you or others along with you carry a winch?
2) I see some great pics...were there any mishaps? Gouged oil puns, broken parts, water in the diff type stuff? (Other than the Toyota)
3) Did you use any sort of communication? CB, FMRS, cell phone, yelling?
4) How tough was it on your Jeep...do the rock rails help? Anyone damage their doors with them on?
5) Pro and cons to different set ups...stock vs mod (not obvious), doors on vs off, hard top on vs off, bikini top on vs off (for the record I like to see ALL bikini tops off!:yup:

Well, for me....
1) How do you know what the limitations of your vehicle are? Are you generally cautious or do you push the limits? Are you willing to push harder if you or others along with you carry a winch?
wayoflifette and I have a pretty good idea of what the limitations are on our JK but only because we have been wheeling it as much as we have in the few months that we've owned it. And, when we are with a group, yeah, we try to push ours even further. As for others along for the ride with us, we try to help them take as hard of a line as they may want or as easy of one as possible.
2) I see some great pics...were there any mishaps? Gouged oil puns, broken parts, water in the diff type stuff? (Other than the Toyota)
Not for us on this run. Mostly a lot of scratches to our control arms, skids plates and a couple of new dents on our exhaust pipe just in front of the t-case cross member. Also, this was the second time that we weren't able to get our rear locker to disengage. Need I say, we've got an appointment with our dealer Don-a-Vee in the morning.
3) Did you use any sort of communication? CB, FMRS, cell phone, yelling?
Most of our group does not have a CB yet and so we just got by with FMRS radios and/or yelling. And, for the most part, this seem to do just fine :)
4) How tough was it on your Jeep...do the rock rails help? Anyone damage their doors with them on?
Well, in my opinion, not that hard at all and although we have Shrockworks sliders on our JK (works fantastic too), all the guys with factory Rubicon rails had no problems what so ever. A few even hit theirs really hard a few times without a dent. Surprising, these things work very well and are a lot tougher then they appear to be.
5) Pro and cons to different set ups...stock vs mod (not obvious), doors on vs off, hard top on vs off, bikini top on vs off (for the record I like to see ALL bikini tops off!:yup:
All the modded JK had a much easier time on the trial and although they did do quite well, I can't see where a stock JK would have any advantage obvious or not. Doors off is always an advantage as you get much greater visibility and less to damage if you tip and a soft top/bikini top or no top is always the better way to go as there is less weight on your Jeep giving you a slightly lower center of gravity. And, of course, if you do tip (God forbid), you have one less expensive item to repair. :yup:

I looked at all the pics with as much anticipation as if they were my own!
1) How do you know what the limitations of your vehicle are? Are you generally cautious or do you push the limits? Are you willing to push harder if you or others along with you carry a winch?I am learning the limits of my vehicle by slowly testing them and by watching others who are more experienced. I was a severe newbie not so many months ago and I'm pretty darned cautious, but I'm comfortable as long as I take it slow and have a good spotter (usually WOL). I've now seen the need for a winch more than once. The first time was enough to convince me to get one.
2) I see some great pics...were there any mishaps? Gouged oil puns, broken parts, water in the diff type stuff? (Other than the Toyota)LOL, no there was really no major mishap at all. I think the worst damage done was a few scratches on my rear fender when I slid off a boulder.
3) Did you use any sort of communication? CB, FMRS, cell phone, yelling? We use those Motorola walkies. CBs would be better, but the walkies are fine-- my CB is still sitting on the floor here...:naw: I wanna hook it up to the stereo speakers. :yup:
4) How tough was it on your Jeep...do the rock rails help? Anyone damage their doors with them on? I would have been damaged without the Rubicon rock sliders. I slid off a big boulder and landed on the rocker so hard my Jeep stalled (that's when I scratched the fender). Without a rocker guard, I would have had a major dent. Of course, with that said, JeepCacher had no guards on his rockers and came out without a scratch.
5) Pro and cons to different set ups...stock vs mod (not obvious), doors on vs off, hard top on vs off, bikini top on vs off (for the record I like to see ALL bikini tops off!:yup:Well, I'm running 32" tires and probably could have benefited of slightly bigger tires. With that said, the Tera 2.5 was definitely helpful and I really didn't have trouble at all on this trail. Even with completely open diffs, I barely slipped. And the sunrider top is fun to trail ride with. Seeing that 4-runner roll made me think a bit about the no doors thing... but it sure does look good and you can see more trail, I assume. Definitely want some tube doors. :D
Hope that helps.

Eric & I want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all who helped us on Sunday, May 20, when you winched us out of the ravine and also salvaged our belongings, especially Eddie (Way of Life) & Puddles. And, I would also like to thank the blond young man who first heard our calls for help and assisted with our tire change and was just in general a very nice young man;) . We are recovering from bruises and aches, and, I think, also shock, as it was quite a roll, but, believe it or not, we removed the shattered windshield and our little mountain goat (4 Runner) took us all the way home to North San Diego County with no complaints and is sitting in our driveway, waiting to be resurrected. We've been all the way to Alaska in our mountain goat, have to keep on trucking!. At any rate, we will always be grateful for all your help, and hope to see you on the trail again, under better circumstances! Eric & Theo

If nothing else, you should really try to join us in Moab next year. Basically a long drive for most of us but totally worth it and a great excuse to meet other Jeepers that you would otherwise only get to know by text on a screen.
As far as the hair goes, I'll be honest and tell you that it's a relatively new thing for me. For most of my life, it's been cropped very short. :D
