I have been seriously considering buying one of these two. The advantages of the E-1 over the Cobalt is obviously the size. The Cobalt is very small and simplistic and has a very light tow weight (1275lbs) vs. the E-1 which is around 2200lbs. The Cobalt can be set up fairly quickly (under 10 min). The E-1 has plenty of room on the interior and I believe it has a cartidge toilet system. Not to mention that the E-1 is built a bit more rugged with more ground clearance and larger off road tires, suspension, etc... I am leaning towards the E-1, but I am having a hard time finding a good used one. A little to expensive brand new. The Cobalt on the other hand can be picked up new for around $6,000. Good luck.

Bought a new Coleman Cobalt about a month ago ($6995). Heading to the west side of the Rockies (Rifle Gap State Park and Colorado River State Park) next week for the maiden voyage.
I have pulled it over Trail Ridge Road (12,000') and don't even know it is there.
It is basic with a hand pump water system (5-gallons), 2-burner stove and a furnace.
I am sure it will take a bit of getting used dropping down from a 23' hardside with slide that had A/C, microwave, oven, full bath. But way too heavy to pull behind the JK at altitudes.
I try and post a "post-trip" report when I return.

I looked at buying a pop-up camper like these, but I was worried about pulling it with the JK (with a lift). So I went with a teardrop trailer.

Not much cheaper than the some of the pop-ups though... but perfect for me, by myself. Obviously if you have a family these will not work for you.

Hookin' up and headin' out this mornin' on her maiden voyage.
Hopefully sometime next week I will get a review posted.
Going to Rifle Gap State Park and Colarado River Island State Park. Not planning any real off-road travel with it behind the JK this trip. Just getting used to it and to relax.

I have a Jayco Baja. a little bigger than the E1 a little smaller than the E2
absolutely love it. Jeep doesn't tow it that quickly but it gets me there.

I kinda wish I would have done a little more research. would have been nice to get something with a little room. So you do not have problems pulling it with the JK?

I have 5.13's and plan on putting a trans cooler on soon, but it tows it fine. I have a lot of gear on the cargo area (14 gal extra water, 10 gal gas, generator, wood, cooler, tool box and an air compressor). it doesn't race up canyon roads or anything but it works for me.

I might just have to look in to trading in my teardrop and getting something like this...:?:

yea it's great. toilet, shower, king bed (sort of), water heater, fridge, radio 2 speakers inside 2 outside). Its pretty big at 19 ft unopened, I think there is a AC option but I didn't need that.

I'm definitely going to look in to them. I mean, my little teardrop works fine for me, but I would be nice to have a little more room.

So do you think I would have any problems pulling it from South Carolina to Moab with a coil over suspension?

Okay, here is an update for half of the trip. First, I did know the Cobalt was back there once it and the JK were packed full. Required multiple downshifts coming up the front range and to Eisenhower Tunnel. Down to once to maintain about 35-40. And it definitely suck the go juice down to about 15.6. Once over the mileage came up to about 19.7 or a bit better. And needless to say the speed going down hill still needed a lot of downshifting as well as brakes. The trailer has brakes but I have not wired the up yet. Don't think I will since I never felt uncomfortable with the trailer back there.
As for setup and living - easy and fine. It topped out about 101 degrees today and it still wasn't unbearable. Had one heavy and windy storm roll across the lake in Rifle but it just rocked a bit.
Two people and a "lard-assed" blond labrador it is a bit confined moving around when all are inside but sleeping was no issue. Got cool overnight but the heater took the chill off in about 2 minutes. Still getting used to living with the basics. Have cheated a bit by having electric available in the parks. Which since this thing eats the power I am glad...... Water hasn't been a problem.
Anyway 3 down 2 to go and so far so good. Hopefully some pics and more details later.
