Wondering if anyone has done a camping trip to Assateague in MD? I'm planning a trip as soon as I get some time off and would like to know what you thought of it. Thanks

What are you looking for? I did it last year. Had a blast!
Here is the NPS site with the info.

Where were you able to do this? Me n the wife are looking to pick up an OSV permit and head out that way.
I remember seeing photos of tents set up right on the beach, but the nps.gov site says (at least what I can find so far) that overnight parking/sleeping is prohibited unless actively fishing.
Are any of these official campsites on the beach?
Here is a map of the campsites (pdf!) http://www.nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/upload/campgroundmaps.pdf
Or am I looking in the wrong place completely? (Wouldn't be surprised )
Sorry for all the questions, just want to do it right! :)

Here are the two sites I used to secure the campsite. You are a little bit away from the beach (as in not right on it), but close enough to walk!

Thanks for the info!
We'll see what we can swing (Including an OSV pass at the Sinepuxent Ranger Station!)

Been to assateague about 8 times this year already - fiance loves it - but never have camped.
There is an oceanside camp area for tent or trailer and you can get tent sites right on the sand I believe (lower part of dunes away from the ocean but right there obviously). There is also a bayside camping area...
The OSV permit is $90 a year I believe. I accidentally snuck on once without it, but I wouldn't recommend trying it in summer. The fine is heftier than the OSV permit I believe.
Of course, remember the mosquito spray - they are pretttty bad there.
