It’s not everyday that the Historic Vehicle Association (HVA) nationally registers a beat-up old 1962 Jeep CJ-6 that’s been rolled over, abused, and suffered a variety of dings and dents over the years. So what makes this Jeep so special? Well, the owner was President Ronald Reagan.

The CJ-6 was one of many vehicles owned by Reagan, but this one was a particular gem, as the President used it frequently on his ranch in Southern California. Instead of purchasing a more expensive and capable off-road vehicle, Reagan felt the Jeep was more emblematic of his personal nature.

After Reagan passed away, the ranch was sold off and the vehicles that remained, including the Jeep CJ-6, were given to friends. Eventually the Jeep was tracked down and purchased by members of the Young American’s Foundation. The vehicle has since been drained of all fluids and kept in dry storage.

Reagan’s Jeep CJ-6 will travel to Washington D.C. for the HVA’s second Cars at the Capitol event, where it and a number of other historical vehicles will be on display at the national mall from April 14th – 26th.
