If you own a Wrangler from the 2007 through 2012 model years, you could be looking at a recall in the near future.

Apparently, US regulators are looking into complaints that a wiring problem in the Jeeps could prevent the airbags from inflating in an accident. At least one Wrangler owner I know can attest to that from his own experience.

The report, picked up from ABC 27 News, says that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received 221 complaints that the airbag warning light is illuminating, which suggests that there is an electrical problem in the steering wheel.

So far, the NHTSA hasn’t received any reports of crashes or injuries due to the electrical problem, but it looks as if this issue could lead to a recall of some of the 630,000 or so Wranglers being investigated as part of the probe.

Meanwhile, owners who are seeing the light illuminate are being encouraged to contact their local dealer.
