Generational hand-me-downs usually amount to jewelry, fine china, and furniture. On rare occasions, an automobile might be passed down through the ranks of succession; still rarer yet, an automobile with a specific set of joyful memories attached. As you can see in the outstanding Petrolicious video below, that is precisely what Larry Shank of California had bequeathed to him when his father added him to the owner’s title of this 1953 Willys Jeep CJ-3B with a 1947 Ken-Skill Kustom Kamper in tow.

Larry spent some considerable time restoring his Jeep. Luckily, since his father made sure he was such integral part of every adventure, Larry knew every bolt and every body panel like the back of his hand. Larry made sure he kept intact several modifications that his father made to the Willys, such as an articulating headlight and swamp-cooler.

The Shank Willys Jeep will not have its keys handed down to an heir, as Larry has no family. Fortunately for us, the Jeep will find its way into a museum collection. With it will come a story of some good people who used this very capable machine to drive the road less traveled.
