Jeep Pickup Could Be Built on Ram Platform

Analyst Identifies Key Signs Suggesting New Jeep Pickup Could Be Built at Toledo Wrangler Plant

If the speculation is true, the new Jeep pickup could be built on a platform shared with the new Ram.

Now, before anyone starts getting all excited about a vehicle that merges the capabilities of a Jeep with the sturdiness of a Ram, know that at this point it’s all purely speculation. Until there’s some official word from Jeep, it should be treated as a rumor, at best.

The concept certainly is appealing though, right?

The idea comes from an Automotive News FCA analyst named Larry Vellequette. But, you ask, on what grounds has Mr. Vellequette built this groundbreaking assumption?

Well, he actually raises a few points to support the speculation. One is that FCA has announced they are pushing back the debut of the Jeep pickup until 2019. Vellequette says that’s because the Jeep truck is too long for the current paint shop configurations at the Toledo plant, where the Wrangler is built.

Vellequette also notes the fact that FCA CEO, Sergio Marchionne, has been considering bringing Ram production back to the U.S. from Mexico, due to the possibility of being hit with huge tax tariffs under President Trump’s administration.

Couple that with FCA’s plans to make changes at the Toledo Jeep plant, and the grounds for Mr. Vellequette’s speculations gain more credibility. What do you think?
