Battle-Ready 1951 Willys M38 Seems Like a Bargain

Is it me, or does $38,500 sound like a steal for this 1951 Willys M38?

The military Jeep, which recently sold at auction, is equipped with a 60-horsepower, 134-cubic-inch L-head inline four-cylinder engine paired with a three-speed manual transmission, as highlighted in a North American Hunter report.

The frame-off restored Jeep also features live front and rear axles with semi-elliptical leaf spring suspension and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. But it’s the Willys’ artillery features, which include a .50-caliber air-cooled machine gun and a .30 caliber water-cooled machine gun, that really make it a unique collectible.

The M38 is also equipped with a period-correct telephone, radio, gas can, helmet, and operational siren. Oh, and while the Jeep’s machine guns don’t actually fire live rounds, they do fire authentic sounding shots.

That alone makes this ’51 Willys M38 quite the deal for $38,500. Am I right?
