How to Make Beautiful Scenery with Your Jeep

JK Forum Beautiful Scenery

I was “trolling” around the JK Forums a few days ago and came upon the Beautiful Scenes thread. I decided to pick out my favorite pictures and give you some advice on how to shoot using your camera. It doesn’t matter if it is your cell phone, a point-and-shoot, or a DSLR; you can make beautiful images to share with JK Forum, too!

Let me start with a few tips on taking pictures. First: don’t be afraid to experiment! Take a shot and see how it comes out. Sometimes it will be good, sometimes it won’t.

Second: try to shoot with a lower ISO. The higher it is, the more grainy the picture can come out to look. Cell phone folks: you’re kind of stuck with what you’ve got, but most point-and-shoots do allow for some ISO changes.

Finally: Shoot with a fast shutter speed if you can’t stabilize yourself enough or don’t have a tripod. If your image is starting to get a little dark, raise the ISO to compensate until the picture is bright enough or achieves the look you’re going for.

This is a great example of how a centered-up subject can still make for a great-looking photo. There is just enough space between the frame edges and the Jeep and the sun is in a nearly perfect spot. Having the bridge in the background was an awesome idea, BucYouUp68.

FA Industries
FA Industries got this cool-looking action shot of a JK fording through water. He also utilized putting the JK slightly off center and it works, thanks to the interesting background and wake of the Jeep through the water.

Jku pilot
Jku Pilot took advantage of the NorCal Redwoods and kept his lights on. The lights add a bit of a dramatic touch without blinding out the rest of the picture.

TRAUMAhead
Normally, I discourage making vehicles look small in pictures, which wide-angle lenses only exacerbate. However, TRAUMAhead shows how you can get around this by using the rule of thirds and having a very scenic background.
