Metal detectors are highly-addictive gadgets. Once you use one, you rarely want to step away from exploring all the things buried just under the surface of the earth.
In this endearing short film, we find a man’s curiosity leading him to an incredible discovery. He begins combing the beach. He finds little things at first, like a bicycle chain. But just as he is giving up, his detector sets off a signal that something substantial is underneath the sand.

After hours of digging, he carefully uncovers a war Jeep. And as the ultimate surprise, it starts right up! (Okay, we know that part is far-fetched, if not wholly impossible.)
After removing most of the sand, the man sees this Jeep was affectionately called “Jessie.” Reflecting on the Jeep brings a heavy heart to this beach explorer. One singular bullet hole through the front glass is a sure sign of how that soldier driving the Jeep met his fate. Jessie’s driver earns a salute.
Since the Jeep miraculously runs, the old guy takes it out for a spin to see what Jessie can still do. It may be total fantasy, but it’s a neat story, and has a moving, read-between-the-lines message.
