Chrysler Still Fixing Jeep Cherokee Transmission Issues

When the new Jeep Cherokee was initially launched, most of the press was concerned with the terrible transmission software that heavily impaired the vehicle. Both journalists and consumers alike sounded the alarm of the awful transmission issues that greatly decreased the likelihood of a recommendation for the SUV. However, Jeep has been slowly fixing the problems and has been getting the transmission to work better.

I just recently had the pleasure of driving the new nine-speed, and while I could still detect a bit of wonkiness, the transmission was much better than before. However, that isn’t keeping Chrysler from continuing to improve the overall performance on those earlier models.

According to the NHTSA, which has been receiving complaint after complaint, Chrysler is continuing to work on the issues. A Chrysler spokesperson stated the company would be releasing a new software update that is “intended to keep the vehicle performing as intended, and to prevent durability issues from occurring in the future.”

The new software patch will also be available to the Chrysler 200, which uses the same nine-speed transmission.

But because I read many of the complaints Chrysler has been getting from Cherokee owners, I’d like to hear it from the source. Who on here has a new Cherokee? Did you buy one when they first came out? And is the transmission that awful?
