This past weekend at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach, this gallery-quality 1979 Jeep J10 Pickup sold for $34,650 to one lucky bidder.

This J10 Pickup is a rare configuration, built as a standard cab and bed 2-door, 3-passenger model standing on a short 119-inch wheelbase — a nice compact package for the properly-rebuilt AMC 6.6-liter V8 mill’s 320 lb-ft of torque. It cycles through a meaty Turbo 400 automatic transmission, which pushes power through a rugged Borg-Warner Quadra-Trac 4-wheel drive system that’s equipped with locking fronts.

This pickup is loaded for bear too, with rear lock ability to help whip you out of that quicksand. Chosen boots to apply all those 225 horses to any terrain are a set of 33-inch uber-wide tires.

Jeep J10s are available around the web, but not in this exact-exact model that’s been assembled with rare optional equipment and resto quality. This range-topping edition has updates with modern driving components and newly laid denim blue paint.

Just as the powerplant has been thoroughly restored to better than factory standards, the frame, suspension, and exterior paneling have been thoughtfully rehabilitated as well. New components that bring this 4-wheel drive ORV into hill-climb contention are the modern shock absorbers, fatty 15-inch chrome wheels, and that thick Grant chrome steering wheel.

I have honestly not seen a better example of a J10 this decade, especially in this build configuration, quality and color. Just like Barrett-Jackson says “a true classic and exceptional example of American engineering.”
