What Does Compass' Success Mean for Jeep's Future?

The Future Looks Bright! New Jeep Compass Could Drive Development of More Jeeps

As the saying goes, it’s always best to strike when the iron is hot.

That said, if you’re a brand like Jeep, which always seems to be hot, then the strategy might call for a slightly different approach.

Either way, speculations are running high that the sales success of the brand could prompt Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to build more models under the nameplate. The launch of the all-new 2017 Compass certainly fuels that idea. In fact, a recent Automotive News says it could be one of the most globally successful Jeeps ever.

In short, consumer demand for a product often fuels more demand for more products. Despite all the success Jeep has had domestically, roughly one third of all Jeeps are sold outside the States. The brand’s growing global presence pushed Jeep past the 1.4-million unit sales mark in 2016. But that leaves plenty of room for even further expansion, in markets like China and Europe.

Of course, we already know that an all-new Wrangler, Grand Wagoneer, and Jeep pickup will be revealed soon. It certainly makes us wonder what other vehicles Jeep could build? Particularly new vehicles that wouldn’t affect the sales of ones already slated.

The forthcoming Hellcat-inspired Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will fill a niche in the high-performance segment. But apparently, there’s even more that the nameplate could explore. We shall see. We just hope that whatever new Jeep vehicles FCA is considering, they stay true to the core essence of the brand.
