I often imagine that one day I will find myself in possession of some cool car that was left to sit in some forgotten barn or garage, a time capsule of petrol and horsepower that has been left hidden from the world. Alas, until I can find that machine, I guess I will just use the power of the Internet to live vicariously through others. With living in mind, check out the cool new video below from Motor Trend’s “Dirt Every Day” series.

This month’s video sees Fred take ownership of a sweet 1961 Jeep Willys Wagon that has been parked for nearly 40 years. The engine was swapped in the early ’70s, then in 1978 that new engine died, and the wagon was parked.

Now Fred has pulled it from storage, dropped a V8 under the hood, and added some new tires. He left the original body, glass, brakes, and drivetrain, opting to create a relaxed desert cruiser instead of an all-out rock crawling monster.

Best of all, it’s red.

The video is pretty quick and dirty as far as getting the engine swap done, but the last half of the film is dedicated to trundling around the high California desert with Roadkill’s David Freiberger following in tow as a support vehicle. It is the best form of dirty fun.

Now if you will excuse me, I feel the urge to spend the rest of my scouring Craigslist.
