I knew it’d be hard for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to just issue a press statement in response to the news that a Jeep Cherokee was hacked for a Wired magazine report.

I’m no PR expert, but I just knew it would take a lot more than a few words to clear this one up, which is probably why FCA is now recalling 1.4 million vehicles over the issue, which includes 2014-15 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Cherokees, according to a Detroit News report. Well, that, and the fact that they were pressured by the government.

The recall comes only days after the news broke that hackers Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek took control of a Cherokee driving on a public road. The duo cyber hacked the vehicle’s infotainment system, as we covered here earlier.

The fix for the vehicles includes a software update for certain radio systems that could be more at risk of being hacked.

So, I think it’s safe to say that if Miller and Valasek set out to prove a point, they’ve succeeded in a major way.
