I doubt anyone saw this one coming. A Trackhawk edition Renegade before the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk? Really?

Well, it appears that might very well be how the next high-powered Jeep rolls out, if recent reports turn out to be true.

Within the same day of reporting that the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will be delayed as a 2017 model, Motor Authority followed up with news saying that Jeep will roll out a Trackhawk Renegade model first.

Nope, it won’t be equipped the same 707-horsepower supercharged HEMI V-8 found in the Dodge Hellcats, which is what’s expected to power the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. But instead, the higher-performance Renegade variant would be powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder putting out 300 horsepower.

Even more surprising are reports that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is planning to only make the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk for one model year, as the company prepares to retire the Hellcat and Hemi engines all together.
