Here’s a Unique Take on America’s Love Affair With Jeep

Come Josephine

Nothing really captures the history of Jeep like the stories of its early days as a war vehicle.

Vintage photos of soldiers posing with the Willys MB or Jeeps making their way onto the shores of Normandy with U.S. servicemen in tow both speak to the richness of the brand’s heritage. But one of the more unique stories we’ve heard is actually depicted in the WNYC radio show below, which tells the love story between a G.I. Joe and his Jeep.

The story, called Come Josephine, essentially unfolds from the point of view of the Jeep, named Josephine, who meets a serviceman at Fort Benning in Georgia. The show then tracks the Jeep and G.I. Joe’s journey to North Africa and Italy, before Josephine is sent back to the U.S. to help sell war bonds.

It’s an interesting take on America’s love affair with Jeeps, which true Jeep historians will certainly find interesting.
