Jeep Cherokee Gets Another Recall for Air Bag Sensors

If there’s one thing that can truly taint the image of a Jeep, it’s news that the SUV doesn’t quite know how to handle rough terrain.

Attach that stigma to a brand new model and things gets even more troubling, which is why I imagine this latest Jeep recall is a growing concern for company officials, even though it’s really just a small technical issue.

On the heels of a February recall on 228,181 Cherokees, Jeep has announced another recall on roughly 62,148 Cherokees from the 2014 and 2015 model years for the same problem, according to a USA Today report.

At issue are the SUV’s air bags that have been deploying under conditions known as “harsh, off-road environments.”

According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), in some cases, the Cherokee’s sensors have been causing the side-curtain and seat-mounted side air bags to deploy when the SUV is at odd or extreme angles, as if the vehicle had been in a rollover accident.

The good thing is that a software flash fixes the problem, but it certainly isn’t the kind of issues we like hearing about a new Jeep.
