There is one big rivalry in the off-roading community. That between the Land Rover Defender and the Jeep Wrangler. Both are utilitarian off-roaders. Both have all the necessary components and gear to kick up mud and crawl over pretty much just about anything. But both at the moment are looking a bit long in the tooth. Their styling hasn’t changed much since World War II, and neither have their chassis, really. Well, both are looking at brand-new designs and brand-new everything coming very soon.
The Jeep is scheduled to come out in a few years, and the Land Rover just a bit after the Jeep. Both will have revised chassis, use heavily aluminum structures, and will get better fuel economy to come along with the times. But no word yet on how either will look. We’ve seen some concepts of both, but nothing of the final product. That all could be changing rather soon.
Both auto manufacturers are set to debut some design they just signed off on. A report coming from Carscoops says Land Rover has finally signed off on their new design for the Defender, which has been going on for the last ten years. Jeep should be releasing its own stuff in the coming year. Land Rover did say it looked nothing like the concepts they showed off in 2011, which is probably a good thing because those sucked. We will just have to wait a bit longer to see the finished products.
