Jeep Looking at Another Grand Cherokee Recall

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit

After the last few years of what seems like constant recalls, it’s been fairly quiet on that front for quite some time now. However, that might all be coming to a close. According to the NHTSA, they have reopened an investigation into whether or not Chrysler screwed up a recall.

According to the NHTSA, the new inquiry focuses on the 2014 recall about a defective wiring issue that had caused a handful of fires in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango in model years 2011-2014. The fires, discovered by a few unlucky customers, led Chrysler to believe that the fault was an electrical short in the vanity lamp wiring for both sun visors.

Total Recall

Chrysler supposedly fixed the issue with a simple plastic guide installed on the sun visor wiring loom. However, since the fix, the NHTSA reported eight other fires with the supposed fix in place. No crashes or injuries have been reported, but a fire is a fire, and Chrysler can’t allow this to continue.

We will keep you posted as more information seeps out. If you have one of these SUVs, I’d take it into the dealership immediately or remove the sun visors yourself.
