Whoever thought up this next project was definitely drunk at the time. What I’m about to show and tell you is the story of a group of friends and a dream. A dream so ludicrous, that it just had to come together and work perfectly. It’s a story of a group of friends and the idea to build a Jeep Cherokee track SUV.

Now, this isn’t the story of a modern Jeep SRT8. No, this is the story of a Jeep Cherokee Sport from 1995. The project honestly started off as a $600 Jeep from a local dealership, and somehow evolved into a wicked track car.

First the guys lightened the car a full 200 pounds, something you definitely need to do when building a track Jeep, obviously. Second, they replaced the rear axle with a Ford Explorer unit, because it gave them disk brakes, and a limited slip differential. Because again, it’s a race Jeep. Next they played with the spring rate to give it better cornering speed without increasing the ride height.

At this point in the story, I’m totally with them. However, I won’t give anymore away because you just need to read every single detail about what they did to get this Jeep into fighting condition. So go to the fridge, grab a few beers, and take the wild ride that is this track Jeep’s build thread. It’s hilarious and awesome.
