Jeep WW II Restoration Project Is One for the Books

In the midst of celebrating Jeep’s 75th anniversary, you’ll be hard pressed to find a cooler story than this.

Sure, any report about a Jeep being restored for an American war veteran is worth a front page post here at JK Forum. But the story of a man restoring a 1954 M38A1 Jeep for his dad who served in the Navy during World War II? Well, that’s something special, as detailed in the Dubois County Free Press video below.

Garry Hisel, a long-time Jeep enthusiast, found the war vehicle on Craigslist, initially planning to just add the Jeep to his collection. It wasn’t until Hisel found out that the Jeep was used by the U.S. Navy that he got the idea to restore it in honor of his father, Sidney Hisel, who volunteered for the Navy in 1944.

The elder Mr. Hisel probably best sums up what such a gift means: “To think that he thought enough of me to do that for me, well, I have trouble talking about it. I don’t have words to describe it. To have a son that thinks that much of me, I just can’t describe it.”

It doesn’t get much better than that, right?
