What is the coolest and cheapest mod that you can do to your JK? Don’t worry this isn’t some kind of trick question, or some sort of odd sales pitch. If you guessed anything other than “Fender Trim,” you’re wrong. Trimming the huge bulky fenders on the JK gives the Wrangler a much cleaner, sportier, and more aggressive look. Plus it can help when you are on the trail as well. Less bulky plastic means fewer things to hang on rocks and branches, plus it gives you better sight lines to see your tires. With little more than tape, something to cut with, and a bit of sanding, you too can have some great looking trimmed fenders.

If the process of hacking up your new Jeep seems a bit frightening, let me help you out. A couple of years ago, JK Forum member TheonlyREDhead 2008 JK put up a full tutorial on how to trim your fenders in a way that looks great, gets even results from side to side, and uses a very minimal set of tools. With just one good afternoon and a bit of patience, you can give your fenders a professional looking trim job.

Without going into all the details, that is what the thread is for after all, the process involves taping off the fenders in a certain pattern, then cutting and sanding to give smooth edges. There is a bit more work involved thanks to the way the fenders mount to the JK, but overall it’s not a difficult process.

Now get to reading, gather your tools, and then start hacking at those big ugly slabs of plastic. If you have a hard time following the pictures and text, you can also find a few short videos scattered around the first post to help give you a more dynamic visual of what is going on. Just look for the YouTube links.

Be sure to hit the thread when you are done to give TheonlyREDhead 2008 JK a nice big thank you, and of course to post your before and after photos for everyone to admire.
