The next time you decide to venture off-roading in some unfamiliar territory, you might want to keep this in mind.

A man in Walpole, Massachusetts was charged nearly $50,000 to have his Jeep towed after getting stuck in the mud, as highlighted in the MyFoxBoston report below.

Yup, you read that correctly, almost fifty grand. The exact figure for the Cherokee owner’s bill from the tow company, Assured Collision, was $48,835. And exactly how did Assured Collision come up with that cost?

Well, according to their calculations the work cost $16,000 for an on-scene supervisor at $1,250 an hour; more than $10,000 for an off-road recovery incident response unit; a $5,000 fee for dangerous condition liability insurance; and another $17,000 (give or take a few hundred) in equipment and additional manpower fees.

To top things off, the Jeep owner, Joel Ramer, says his Jeep is now completely totaled from the tow and the mud. And Ramer and his girlfriend were arrested for trespassing on land belonging to a public utility.

Ramer is hoping that his insurance company can come to some type of agreement on the matter, but in the meantime, the Jeep remains in the custody of Assured Collision.

Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities is now investigating the seemingly excessive bill.
