If there’s one over-arching topic being discussed throughout the automotive world, it’s VW and Dieselgate. The company was found to be cheating the EPA’s system, and the story has developed into one of the largest fiasco’s ever to hit the industry. However, there are those companies still out there that are building good diesels, at least until we hear back from the EPA. One of those companies is Mercedes.

Now, you may ask, why am I talking about Mercedes and the company’s diesels here on JK Forum. Simple, because one man is striving to fit a Mercedes 3.0L turbo diesel into their JK. And he’s doing so for a reason.

As he explains on his blog, The Road Chose Me, Dan Grec is creating one of the most unique custom diesel JK Wranglers out there. The Jeep will be one of the Featured Vehicles at this year’s upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas, and will be shown off with the help of AEV.

The Jeep is being extensively modified, including the diesel engine, to allow Dan to circumnavigate Africa over the course of two years, solo. The trip will be over 80,000 miles long, and will take Dan around the entirety of Africa. Think of this Jeep as the ultimate overland Jeep.

There are those that build these Jeeps, but few that actually put their money where their mouth is. Dan is one of those few. And he’s also a JK Forum member. So head on over to his thread and wish him luck!
