Jeep Wrangler fans can all breathe a huge sigh of relief. Yup, after months of speculation and rumors, it looks like we can confirm that the next gen Wrangler will remain a solid axle vehicle.

The good news that the 2018 Wrangler will most surely have a solid axle instead of the much feared independent suspension comes courtesy of a series of Motor Trend spy photos capturing the underpinnings of a prototype. The Jeep prototype appeared to have a number of body modifications, as well as a longer dash-to-axle ratio than than the current Wrangler, suggesting that it is indeed a next gen Wrangler.

Still no official word on the engine specs for the new model, but the Motor Trend reports seems to suggest that the current 3.6-liter V-6 could be replaced by a smaller, more efficient turbocharged engine matted to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Be sure to check out the full Motor Trend report here, loaded with a lot more photos of the Wrangler prototype.
