Really? A New Hummer to Compete with Jeep?

I really wish someone would lock this thought up in a crate, fly it way off to some deserted island, and bury it 900 feet below the ground.

As I so clearly stated in my earlier “Dear GMC” story here, for the life of me, I just don’t get the idea that GM thinks it can come up with anything remotely competitive with Jeep (especially the Wrangler), as suggested in a recent Yahoo story. Does it really even deserve serious attention?

And the thought that reviving Hummer might be the way to go is even more absurd, considering we’ve been down this road before.

Yeah, I get it; GM is really looking for a way to get back into the rugged SUV segment, hoping to pick up some of those sales Jeep keeps cashing in on. And it seems like the brands that keep popping up for the task are Hummer and GMC.

My suggestion to GM would be this: Go ahead and work on a few concepts, but issue a press release that makes it clear you would never try to compete with Jeep.
