Savvy Driving: John Currie and Gerald Lee’s Mod Class JKR Wrangler

2014 King of The Hammers
Wanna know what it takes to win the Smittybilt Every Man Challenge 3-years running? Well, part of it is the amazing talent and experience of John Currie and co-driver Gerald Lee. Actually, that’s most of it.

The rest, though, is in the Savvy Offroad/Currie Racing Jeep Wrangler JKR. So let’s take a brief look into what makes this the dominating truck of 2014.

The Wranger JKR utilizes a custom perimeter frame rather than the OEM underbody frame for clearance, but it is limited to the rules of the Ultra4 Modified Class. From there, the four-link suspension is a Savvy/Currie Racing design front and rear with Fox Shocks 2.5 three-tube bypass and 2.5 coil over shocks connected to the Currie RockJock HP60 axles that travel 14-inches. Inside are 35-spline 300M shafts, Detroit Lockers, and Currie Pro Race Hubs. Stopping power is controlled by a Brembo 4-piston calipers in front with 13-inch rotors on both the front and rear.

The engine is a Chevrolet LS3 V8 connected to a Chevrolet Performance 4L85E 4-speed Automatic with an Atlas II with 3.0:1 gearing. The grip for that power and the rocks comes from a set of 37-inch Falken Wildpeak MTs on Walker Evans 17-inch beadlocks.

While Currie will get the glory for driving, Gerald Lee is the guy pointing him in the right direction. For that, Gerald keeps his eyes on the Lowrance HDS-10 GPS system. Currie does keep an eye on the vitals of the JKR with an AIM Digital Display. Both of them sit in PRP Podium racing seats.

And that’s how you win the Every Man Challenge 3-years running.
