Women are important participants in the off-road hobby, and Malaysia celebrates their contributions with the SheMud 4×4 off-road race. It’s a race only for women, teamed up in pairs of two. Malaysia’s jungle setting offers trails full of deep ruts, glutinous mud, steep inclines, and formidable ridges.

The event is truly an international affair, with countries all over the globe being represented. It also offers a great opportunity to hone skills, as it is open to any experience level.

Short wheel base seems to be the way to go with this type of race, and the two models that stand out most are the Jeep Wrangler and a short-bed Toyota Diesel pickup. The rigs are heavily modified with racing safety equipment, higher-articulation suspension, big tires, and, of course, a winch.

Part of the multi-day adventure comes from camping out in the Malaysian jungle, using only minimal resources. Tents are made out of simple materials, and even clothing and gear is washed using natural resources, aka rivers. The off-road challenges and spartan arrangements all add up to camaraderie among fellow competitors across the globe.
