The Jeep JK Is Not Going to Win Any Awards for Fuel Efficiency. But There Are Things You Can Do to Help Your MPG

No one is going to accidentally confuse the Jeep Wrangler for a fuel-efficient car. It is not known for fantastic gas mileage, and likely never will be. With that being said, however, there are ways to help you eke out a few additional miles per gallon. Take a quick read through this week’s Spotlight article to get started.

Beyond the items listed, there are some additional things that you can avoid, in order to better your Jeep’s gas mileage. Some are more obvious than others. One overlooked item is drag. Sadly the JK and its predecessors have not been designed with wind resistance in mind. But if you can keep the top up and closed, it may help you decrease a bit of drag on your ride.

Large tires, extra lights, and the such can make the JK look really good. But unfortunately they can hinder fuel economy too. Larger tires can add not just weight, but also additional drag. None of these things make the JK more efficient for miles per gallon, or when going off-road, for that matter. And does it really look that good anyways?

By following the ideas in this week’s article, you may see your fuel consumption come down from month to month. No, the Jeep will never keep up with the Prius, as far as miles per gallon go. But the Prius also won’t likely see anything other than asphalt in its life. And that’s just plain sad.
