Story of First Jeep Told in Historic Vehicle Association Video

First Jeep

I can’t think of anything more deserving of a YouTube feature than this iconic piece of Americana.

In fact, I suspect they could develop an entire week-long TV special about the 1940 Ford Pilot Model GP-No. 1 Pygmy, considering how much impact it had on American history. The vehicle, known as the oldest surviving Jeep, currently resides in the U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum in Huntsville, Alabama.

The YouTube clip below brings the story of the legendary vehicle to life in a way that only video can. The piece was developed by the Historic Vehicle Association and is featured in a series segment called “This Car Matters.”

While many here may be familiar with the general story behind the war vehicle, odds are good you’ll learn something new in the video, as there are a few interesting and obscure tidbits to savor.
