Big Year for Jeep Highlighted in TBT MotorWeek Retro Review

1983 jeep lineup

The more things change, the more they seem to stay the same. To make this point, let’s take a look back in history on this Throwback Thursday to the days when the Jeep name didn’t belong to Fiat. MotorWeek has done a great Retro Review video, shown below, about the 1983 AMC lineup that includes things like the Renault Alliance and Fuego, the AMC Contour and Spirit, and, of course, the full lineup of Jeeps.

1983 was a big year for Jeep with the CJ5, CJ7, new XJ, Wagoneer, Cherokee, and of course the Scrambler and Honcho trucks all available on dealer lots. 1983 also saw the introduction of the new Select Drive 4WD system with its full-time 2WD/4WD transfer case to all automatic equipped Wagoneers, Cherokees, and trucks.

It’s a wild video watch, and its full of all the cheesy off-road field driving and cheesy voice-over work you could ever want. The ’80s are some of the best years for the Jeep, and it’s easy to see why in this video. Mostly the fact that AMC made a Jeep which was customizable and perfect for basically any scenario.
