Thousands of Dangerous Recalled Jeeps Still Go Unfixed

Jeep Recall

It seems that one of the biggest issues facing Jeep right now is getting all of the owners of the Grand Cherokees and Libertys that have been recalled for gas tank issues to bring them in to get fixed.

Of the 1.56 million older Jeeps that have been recalled because safety officials believe they could catch fire in rear-end crashes, only a fraction of the vehicles have had a trailer hitch installed to fix the issue.

That fraction includes four percent* of the Grand Cherokees that have been recalled and 27 percent* of the Libertys that need the hitch installed. Both figures are well below the 75-percent average for recalls.

The potentially hazardous gas tanks prompted a Georgia jury to order Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to pay a family $150 million as compensation for the death of a four-year-old boy who died in one of the Jeeps after the vehicle was rear-ended and burst into flames. So far, a total of 75 people are believed to have died in post-crash fires due to the faulty tanks.

Please, folks, if you own or know of someone who owns one of these recalled Jeeps, which include 1993-1998 Grand Cherokees and 2002-2007 Libertys, make sure they get the necessary repairs.
