Urban Four-Wheeling Toledo, the Home of Jeep

By -

Jeeps Have Been Built in Toledo, Ohio for Decades. But Can You Find Anywhere to Go Four-Wheeling There?

Fred and Dave Williams of “Dirt Every Day” fame are two guys that can really get stuff done. Unlike some of the other shows on the Motor Trend network, Fred and Dave’s projects are usually quite functional upon completion. And they frequently take them way off the beaten path, to places mortals fear to tread.

In this episode, they do a very simple JK build with Dana 60s, big tires, and most of the bits in the Rugged Ridge catalog. This time, however, instead of getting dirty, doing something unreasonably difficult, or swapping in something crazy — they’re just driving up to Toledo, Ohio to check out the one-time home of Jeep.

The old Jeep facility was torn down. All that remains is one of the original Willys Overland smokestacks. In its place is a new industrial park being built to equip the new Jeep plant with new supplier facilities. In typical “Dirt Every Day” fashion, Fred and Dave manage to make the best of the situation by finding some really cool stuff to climb over.

First they do donuts and climb pallet wood in the unfinished Dana building. Then, elsewhere on the grounds, they go find some telephone poles, concrete rubble, and chopped-down trees to climb over.

This is a really interesting video because it merges the past of Jeep with the present and the future. It doesn’t get any more poetic than taking a current Jeep to the town where Jeeps have been made for years in order to do Jeep things on sacred Jeep land. It’s a long video, at nearly half an hour, but check it out, it’s really worth your time.
