Hum Rider Grand Cherokee Transforms to Promote New Verizon Car App

Here’s a Jeep mod that anyone who has ever been stuck in rush hour traffic can appreciate.

Although, we’re not so sure about the legality of the custom setup. And yet, we’re sure there would be more than a few people willing to give it a shot, even those fully aware of the legal risk.

The super-elevated Grand Cherokee, known as the Hum Rider, features a hydraulic system that enables the Jeep to transform into a vehicle with a ride height over nine-feet tall. Which, as you can see in the video above, makes traffic pretty much a non-issue.

According to a Top Gear report, the Jeep contraption was designed by Scott Beverly of A2Zfx. The specific mechanics of the system include a Honda generator that powers the hydraulic pumps with 400 kg of pressure, making it capable of thrusting the Jeep upward enough to clear most traffic impediments.

Clever, huh?

Well, actually the credit for cleverness probably should go to Verizon, as they’re behind the entire idea. The concept is aimed at helping to promote the wireless provider’s new Hum.com car-technology service. It offers features like roadside assistance, stolen vehicle location, and emergency assistance.

The system functions much like OnStar, just as an app. It’s also capable of providing diagnostic reports on a vehicle. And it offers travel discounts on hotels, and the like.

But honestly, the idea of a Jeep capable of transforming into a high-riding traffic-straddler is far more appealing to us.
