The Wrangler Was Derived From a Need for Function and Capability, and That Essence Has Stayed With the SUV Ever Since. But What About the Future of the Wrangler?

The Jeep Wrangler is, and has always been, the ultimate definition of an off-roader. The JK is capable, fun, and offers a unique driving experience that is… well, just different from other cars on the road. When it comes to how and why the Wrangler looks the way it does, the lineage takes us back, of course, to the WWII-era Willys — a car that was meant to be indestructible.

The Wrangler was derived from a need for function and capability, and that essence has stayed with the SUV ever since. But what about the future of the Wrangler? Do Wranglers of tomorrow need to follow suit with a boxy, stout design, or will things become… more round?

Contrary to the stubborn, unchanging Wrangler, modern car design has become far more rounded, leaving straight lines and sharp edges in the past. The video below explains just how car design got to where it is today, and alludes to a future filled with non-angular shapes. The question in all of this is a simple one: will the Wranglers of the future take the bait and join the curved design revolution? Or will decades of history and nostalgia hold strong, and keep the Wrangler the boxy, edgy go-getter that we all know and love?
