My wife wanted to go to Alaska for her retirement trip next year so I said great! We can take the jeep and camp. She said great! But I am not camping in a tent where there are bears! So I got to looking at building a teardrop to pull behind my 2 door sport. That morphed into a squaredrop to better match my jeep.
In August I bought all the steel to build the trailer frame and started building from the ground up. Bought an axle, two windows and a entry door. Took it camping in October, 3 months from start to campable. We say campable because it will probably never truly be finished. Always some little something to make it better needs doing, we just don't know what that is yet. It weighed in at 1300# with 150# on the tongue. It will be 200 on the tongue when I add the spare which is the only thing I have left to do now other than my graphics I am getting made for the sides.
We have used it a couple of times and I got 14.6 mpg running 70 mph on the interstate.
