Bigger Ed

To get there take HWY 168 East from Fresno, make a right at the top of the 4 lane (Tollhouse road), go 1/2 mile and make a left on Peterson road, follow signs to Bretz Campground, it's twelve miles from the 4 lane. There are no fees at campground, no host, no ability to make reservations. There's also camping outside the campground, including on the road that follows the creek downstream.

There isn't a named trail in the canyon, there's a paved road that loops through the canyon with various quality dirt roads/trails leading off of it here and there. For the event we set up signs telling you where to turn, you leave the main road on a trail, then come back to the same road further down, or cross over to another area.

The canyon is a maze of roads/trails and can be very confusing for first timers. There are stretches of road you run in both directions, it's not the same every year, sometimes the Forest Service doesn't let us use something because it's too wet (or other reasons), sometimes we just use different stuff to mix it up, sometimes we run the canyon in the opposite direction. Some of what we use is by special use permit only, and isn't on any map.
