I've seen welds done with two batteries come apart, not enough penetration. I'm sure that's why those guys were insisting on three batteries.

They were using 6011.

Use 7018 dc negative at least 3 batteries. Been there done that. It works. Four batteries is even better.

It was some effort to find the right tools to remove the batteries and gather jumper cables, but it's better than nothing. All you need to bring you wouldn't otherwise bring is welding rod and helmet, or goggles with dark shade lens.

Great Pics and timeline! Our group just completed the Dusy last weekend, could have used a little rain it was way too dusty.

Some call it the Dusty Ershim...

I've been on Dusy everywhere from early June to late October. Early and late are damp, right now is definitely very dusty though. Think Pigpen.
