I am looking at an 82 Cherokee for my son's first car are there any issues that I should be aware of.its a 1982 Cherokee limited black with gold trim all stock ,bad paint though thanks for your help

Nice low mileage! The '82 Cherokee is a 2-door version of the old SJ Wagoneer body-on-frame platform. It is something of a classic, but its big and heavy compared to the unibody Cherokees that started in '84. V8 automatics had an early version of the aluminum chain-drive TC that was troublesome.

The 6 cylinder 258 is an early version the venerable 6 that powered wranglers until 2006, but the V8s are old AMC engines that may be hard to maintain.

For a good Cherokee I'd be looking for an '87-up Cherokee with the lighter body and 4 liter fuel-injected 6 banger.

Thanks for your reply.its a four door though do you think its worth looking at anyway.it has leather that looks new but the paint is horrible I know I probably need to go to the 4 wheel drive system change all the fluids but if I can get it for 2500. bucks I don't know. I really don't know what I'm getting into here that's why I'm glad I'm with the forum ask me a question about a JK I know all about it but this is a new monster
