2014 JKU Sport HAM Radio install
Hello everyone,
Well I'm new to the site and new to the J/K world. So I figured my first post would be my HAM Radio install, first the specs
FT-90 Micro Dual Band Transceiver 144/440
Yaesu SP-7 external Speaker
FT-90 Separation Kit
And some radio know how
So first I installed the Body of the radio behind the glove box. It seem Jeep made it just right for this radio to fit in this spot. I did this for two reasons, first to keep it out of the way, from sight and possibly water when I head that route. Secondly, I chose this area since there was good air flow so the little fan could keep it cool.
Next I ran the cables from the separation kit under the center dash. The Speaker I mounted under the driver side dash where the small circle vent is so it too is out of the way. Next I ran the mic cable out next to the driver seat and mounted the adapter to the side of the center hump.
Finally, I ran the head unit cable up the driver side a-pillar and mounted the head unit above the rear view mirror. I have attached pics. Please let me know what you think. Criticism is also welcome, considering the Jeep is less than a week old and I still have temp tags.
As for the antenna, I will be using Arizona Rocky Road's mount for the tailgate, with my Diamond NR770HB, or my Comet SBB2. Tested with my mag mount on the cowl and was able to get into all the repeaters around the San Antonio area.
Thanks for looking.

Looks great. You gave me some ideas on where to mount my FTM-400dr. Please send some more pics when you mount your antenna. I'm still debating where to put for a nice clean installation.

Will do, check out the guys at Arizona Rocky Road. Or look at the threads on here, tons of great info, I won't need a ground plane for my antennas. But depending on what you are using let me know.

Speaker is behind the panel under the steering wheel, where there is a molded in speaker type grille. Closer to the center stack, looks like maybe a sensor would go there if I had a higher level model. Sorry for the delay. I just got back on here. Trying to move sucks.

Not too many FT-90s around. This is mine from last year. Radio is next to the Infinity amp. Speaker is on the metal panel under the steering wheel.
Ended up with the antenna inside on the tub lip behind the stock sub. Got a much better match, the radio runs cool and I don't have to worry about the coax flex.
