Hey Jeff....

How high does your antenna project above your top? I like the clean look, but I do park in my garage. Thanks for your whole write up.

Steve,

My antenna is up about 3'- 3.5' above the roof line. When I start parking in the garage full time I will use my Comet SBB2. It's a 24" dual band antenna and it will on stick up above the roof maybe 6"-8". Sorry for the delayed response, been trying to move.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for looking!

Jeff

Ended up with the antenna inside on the tub lip behind the stock sub. Got a much better match, the radio runs cool and I don't have to worry about the coax flex.

I agree about coax flex, but I am running the RG-188. Super small stuff and it goes right up under the rear glass. I'll try and snap some pics today to show how it is. Thanks for looking, wish they made this radio or a version of still. Now I have to convince the wife to let me out the FT-7800R in her car.....😑

Here are the pics of the different antennas and how far they stick up. Sorry again for the delay. Last week was a nightmare with the movers. Two different companies not coordinated at all. The tall antenna does fold down though. So that is a plus

WOW. You don't get much FT-90 goodness these days. Well done! This thread has inspired me to get mine installed again. I traded my 2008 JK for a 2013 and ran out of weather and motivation to get mine installed. All I really need is to get a line on a replacement cable as I damaged the head connection tab on the cable during removal in the dealer parking lot.

Im in Texas, and its 80* here today. Now if I was in Idaho, which is where I will be in a week, then I would have the same weather issues as you. I hope this helps us all get motivated to stay on the air and keep the HAM's going. I was considering putting my Icom 7000 in but I am not to sure about running HF mobile and that is a BIG radio to put in here. Not much extra space, especially if you want to keep it dry.

Installed the Arizona Rocky Road mount and Diamond anetenna yesterday .. just using a Yaesu FT-270 at the moment. If I could ever sell my stock wheels/tires, I'd get a mobile..

Looks good! I really like his stuff! I'm going to put another on the drivers side for an HF. Think I might swap the FT-90 for an FT-857D, I just keep going back and forth. Thoughts on running HF in a Jeep? Anyone with experience?

Just got my Tech license a few weeks ago. Installed a Yaesu 7900 last week. Home made antenna mount and a Diamond antenna that will fold over for clearance issuses. Love this radio, pretty much plug and play installation.
