Am I Late to the CB Party?
So is the CB dead or what? I wanted to participate with a couple of groups and for the longest time a CB was highly recommended. But no I'm finding out that CB's aren't very widely used anymore and so many people are going to HAM radios. Anybody still using CB's out there?

I still use a CB for close range comms with others but the group I usually go with is starting to go towards HAM. Just much greater distance and clarity. Still keep the CB just in case.

The Power of Both
In 2009, I earned my HAM license and started carrying a HAM hand held in my JK along with my CB radio. Here are a few observations on radio use in SoCal:
- If you are joining up with a group of JK'ers for the first time, most will have CB radios if they frequently go off road.
- JK'ers who hold HAM licenses tend to run in packs and use their HAM mobile radios or hand helds while on the trail. Actually, they can use their HAM radios to make contact from the time they leave their homes to the time they return home. That's because of the extensive HAM radio 2 meter repeater system in SoCal. Most of the HAM JK'ers will also carry a CB so they can talk to non-HAMs when required.
- I am now in my third iteration of HAM & CB radios in my JK. I now carry a HAM hand held (Referred to as a HT in the HAM world. HT = handy talkie) Plus a CB hand held. Both of these transceivers are connected to external antennas. So far - So good.
