Anyone running a Ft-857d?

Check out my post of antenna placement. For HF it's probably best to mount a screw adjustable antenna to a rear metal bumper. At least that what my HF ham friends say.

I had an Icom 706MKIIG in my 2012 JKR. Used an Icom AH-4 random wire tuner and a CB whip.
Made a few QSOs, but frankly the performance was so weak compared to my home station (HF tribander at 55', beams for 2m and 6m) that I never really enjoyed it.
Removed it all and just ran 2m and 70cm in the Jeep.
EDIT: just saw I replied with the same thing a couple years ago. Haha sorry

Hi,
I use the ft-857d the last 3-4 years. I love it. Wish I Yaesu create a new small size all band all modes TX/RX with SDR as FTDX-10.
Sorry for the intervention does anybody knows how to solve a problem with my ft-857d? The main rig dial does not work on AM/FM mode in all bands. It operates naturally in SSB, CW, Digital.
I truly believe there is a function that turned off the main dial.

I had a hood lip mount for a while, but didn't like the smalll ground to the hood and the long cable under the hood to allow it to be opened against the window frame like dealer service guys do. So I changed it to an under hood body mount, mounted to a fender bolt. It works fine.

Yep -
I’m using a bracket that I pop-riveted onto the fender - I made sure to grind away a little of the paint under the bracket to ensure a 100% ground - works GREAT!
