Default Handheld CB recommended???

I am thinking of getting a handheld CB radio. Only use would be on trail rides with groups. Would this be a good way to go and skip all the other stuff??? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I use a handheld for trails only but I use a coax to a external mounted antenna also. It's a Cobra. I think. I'll check in a bit.

Thanks Scoo. I was kinda wanting to eliminate the external antenna if possible my Jeep barely fits in garage now.

Oh, I have the same issue. I built living quarters above my garage, and then I ended up having to install a lower than normal garage door height. With 35's on my rig, I ended up with 1.5" to spare. I only leave the antenna bracket permanetly attached then when I go down to Moab, I twist on the 4' firestick onto the bracket by hand, and string my coax through the softop window, under my back seat then between my front seats and quick disconnect to my handheld. Works great. And only when I need it.

Another idea is to get a magnetic mount antenna. I wouldn't suggest it for a permanent install but for trail use it would suit your needs.

And put it where? On the hood?

I have the Midland 75-822. It converts from a mobile to a hand held. Nice little deal.

On the hood or on the cowl between the windshield wipers. You wanted temporary, that is an option. My understanding was that you wanted the capability on the trail and it totally removed day-to-day.

Or as mentioned you could mount an antenna base, run the coax into the cab and use a QD to remove the antenna.

I have similar garage issues so I have a CB mounted and the antenna on a QD.

Quick Reply: Handheld CB recommended???
