I tried shimming the mount on the passenger side, which is how the mount was designed to be used with the stock tire carrier, but it stuck out way too far and the tire didn't clear it. I ended up flipping the mount backwards and used stainless washers to shim it enough to keep it off the paint. About an 1/8" gap and loads of clearance from the tire and top. I feel pretty good about this set with stainless hardware. I'll post up some pictures tomorrow.
