I'm not Jim but I also monitor in and around Houston. I recently changed jobs so that I now get to commute, like most here in Houston, for over two hours a day (during morning and evening traffic times).

Tech. Class- but I do frequency management for GOV. and write radio programs for radios. I don't really need to use HF so I just keep my lic. at tech. I really just need it for the Jeep club.

Default KB3MXL just finishing up my ICOM 706MKII-g install

KB3MXL just finishing up my ICOM 706MKII-G install. I elected to fit the control head, a remote speaker and the mic over the drives sun visor. More Pictures as I am now building the antenna mount bar for the spare tire carrier. It will also hold the jerry cans and the hi-lift, shovel etc.

This is the new rig, 2015 JK with the Rocky Ridge Pinnacle Package,

This is the finished mount, fitting between the top latch on the left and the top[ latch on the right above the drives sun visor.

The mount is made from 1/4" UHMW Polyethylene, Black, UV Stabilized. It matches the interior color pretty well. The face plate part of the mount is high temp plastic welded tot he flat part.

The microphone is convenient, and doesn't really block the mirror view (So I can still see the back seat head rests and the spare tire along with the back window wiper motor....lol

Looking up at the bottom you can see the cut out around the sun visor clip and the plethora of screws attaching the plate to the existing windshield wrap around molding.

You can see the weld seam, cut out and mounting screws along with cables clamps. The base unit is under the front seat.

The visor works and is easy to snap back in, but space was at a premium so it was a multi step layout and mark up to get it right.
