Default High SWR assistance

A couple months ago I installed a Cobra 75 wx st on the jeep. I had everything working fine with a SWR of 1:1 and then a couple weeks ago I forgot to pull the antenna off before pulling into the garage and busted the mounting stud. I ordered a new stud and put it on but now cannot get the SWR below 5. It is on a terraflex spare tire mount and I have a ground strap from the tail gate to the tub for ground. I obviously am missing something, but do not know what so any advice would be appreciated.

Attached are pics of the mount and the ground strap. I've also already replaced the coax just in case

You need to sand-down the holes where the mount attaches to the spare carrier and also the top hole where the antenna attaches. Same thing happened to me with the Teraflex.

I used a Dremel with a grinding wheel to get down to metal. Although now that I think about it I may not have gone 'completely' around just one side.

Did you have the spring on the set-up before breaking it? Is your antenna tunable? Did you damage the coax connection when the stud broke?

The spring is new, but I have removed it and tested and still have high SWR. The antenna is a firestik II tunable antenna. The coax pinched/kinked and had a noticeable break in it which was the reason I replaced it.

Check your antenna. If you hit it hard enough it is possible to damage or break the antenna wire.

Do you have a multimeter? Just need to test for continuity from the tip to base.

It could be you missed the proper sequence and proper placement of mounting stud, ground, nylon bushings, (lip goes toward bracket, both top and bottom), s/s washer and nut. Its easy to do. Suggest you completely remove and look at diagram/instructions to make sure everything is mounted correctly. There should be no continuity between the head of the bolt attaching antenna and your ground. Just a thought.....won't take long to check out.

Sort of. Used a grinding wheel on the Dremel around bolts on the mount and the antenna mount. The bolt where I have the ground strap was a bit loose and tightened that down a bit as well. Doing that put me at 2.5 SWR on 1 and 40, it's good enough but not ideal. I probably need to take the hi-lift jack off and grind around the bolt that the ground strap is connected to, but I'm ok for now. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
